Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)

Kurdish militant political organization and armed guerrilla movement, which has historically operated throughout Greater Kurdistan, but is now primarily based in the mountainous Kurdish-majority regions of southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq. Since 1984, the PKK has been involved in the Kurdish–Turkish conflict, utilizing asymmetric warfare to seek autonomy and increased human rights for Kurds within Turkey. The PKK is designated as a terrorist organization by the EU, US, Australia- at the behest of Turkey- but this designation is heavily disputed.
