Tuesday: (Feb. 18): Mini Micheal becoming big

Michael Bloomberg

Name? Michael Bloomberg

Westphalian identity? American

Age? 78 years old

Why is he in the news? The latest candidate to join the race for the Democratic position against Trump, the billionaire has finally qualified for a Democratic Debate and will be added to the list of candidates for upcoming primaries.

Why do we care? Sarah does. That’s it. Oh and we couldn’t go a week without discussing an American. It seems geopolitics is at play everywhere and somehow the country is earning a permanent seat on our Daily Updates, making us just as flawed as the UN Security Council.

Why should you care? Considering Bloomberg is the 8th richest person in the world (President Trump is 275th, for reference) and a VERY recent addition to the Democratic Party (serving as Mayor of New York City for three terms as a Republican); American citizen or not, you have to wonder, would he really be better than Trump? And if the past is any indication…well, Good Luck America…

Who else cares? Trump, Bernie, Warren, Pete, Klobucher, the rest of the Democratic and Republican party, the few informed American voters, the media and probably some other Americans (oh and the rest of you hopefully).

Any further comments? If Bloomberg is such a controversial candidate, bearing far too many similarities to Trump, why has the Democratic party endorsed him so much? Two reasons: First, he’s endorsed them (recently). Since Bloomberg has money to spend, he has taken careful consideration into where and who he spends it on; ie. democratic candidates and programs. Just like the UN (see below) the Democratic Party cares first and foremost about its own existence and the money and jobs it provides, well before any ideological considerations.

Second, he may have a strong chance to beat the President in Tweet. Contrary to many of his opponents (and due to his Republican past), Bloomberg falls a bit more center in his ideology, meaning he could possibly win some independents and swing some center Republicans. Ultimately, it boils down to whether Americans are all that bothered by his wealth and past.  According to the polls, they aren’t.
