Why is he in the news? When is he not? But today we do not want to rant about his ever failing Covid-19 response but rather his role in the OPEC+ negotiations.
Why do we care? Over the past few weeks we have witnessed a standoff between Putin and MBS as they struggled to establish presence over each other, resulting in a fall of the oil prices down to 20 USD per barrel. And last night, it was Trump who helped all sides reach an agreement, with the US coming out on top of course… because when does that ever happen?
Why should you care? This is a rare occasion where the Donald has been successful in “diplomacy”. You do not want to miss out.
Who else cares? Putin and MBS. Production will be cut by 9,7 million barrels per day leaving no winner but rather two losers who have both been able to save face.
Any further comments? Trump stood by his Mexican allies and managed to broker a deal where global production will be cut but Mexican and US production not. What is happening here? Trump standing by his allies and not hurting US interest? What a world we live in.
