Kashmir Conflict

The conflict between India and Pakistan over the region of Kashmir dates back to 1947 when both countries became independent from British colonial rule. Initially, Kashmir was an autonomous region. After Pakistan tried to claim territory in Kashmir, India stepped in and this is when Kashmir was integrated into India with a ‘special status’. The conflict has continued over the years.
