Durand Line

The Durand Line is an international Afghanistan – Pakistan border. It was established in 1893 by British Indian Civil Service diplomat Mortimer Durand and the Afghan Emir Abdur Rahman Khan.
The Durand Line goes through the Pashtun tribal areas and the Balochistan region, politically dividing ethnic groups living on both sides of the border. It separates Pakistani Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan of northern and western Pakistan from the northeastern and southern provinces of Afghanistan. From a geopolitical perspective, it has been referred to as one of the most dangerous borders in the world. Despite international recognition, it remains unrecognised in Afghanistan.
