(formerly) headed by Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and joined by Evo Morales in Bolivia, Ricardo Lagos in Chile, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil, Rafael Correa in Ecuador and Fernando Lugo in Paraguay, in addition to Cuba and Nicaragua. Following the death of Hugo Chavez, however, the left-wing Bolivarian project lost momentum and leadership, and has since lost support all across the region.
