Foreign agents

A legal term used by numerous states to describe individuals or organizations serving the interests of different states. Various laws regulate the activities of foreign agents in many countries. In the United States, the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) requires individuals to register as foreign agents to maintain transparency. Since 2022, this term has become a tool of suppression in Russia, used to persecute international organizations such as Amnesty International, Memorial, and Transparency International.
