Saairun

سائرون, Arabic for “forward”. A political coalition formed for the 2018 Iraqi parliamentary election, mainly linking the Sadrist movement and the Iraqi Communist Party, as well as other reformist parties such as the Youth Movement for Change. After securing the most seats in 2018 (54/329), the Sadr-led coalition ran again in the October 2021 parliamentary elections, also winning the plurality with an even greater margin (73/329 seats). The alliance is of a catch-all nature, with values that include the Sadrists’ Iraqi nationalism and Shi’a Islamism plus the Communists’ social democracy and anti-corruption reformism.
