Why is she in the news? This past week, Naomi was invited to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in D.C. Other likeminded rightwing activists included the current President of the United States.
Why do we care? The left (or simply those who believe in climate change) have held Greta as their champion for fighting climate change ever since her first protest; harbouring much contempt from the opposing side of old, mostly white, male climate denialists. It seems that now, Greta may finally have a viable opponent in Naomi and the right, a new face against the fight against climate change and other such liberal myths.
Why should you care? If the past is any indication, we will soon all need to choose Team Greta or Team Naomi, form sides and refuse to accept any explanation from friends who choose the ‘wrong’ side.
Who else cares? As mentioned above, the right is especially excited for Naomi’s rise to fame as it provides them with a new face for their cause of ‘climate realism;’ giving them a chance to finally connect with youth activists rising around the world today.
Any further comments? Naomi’s rise to fame as the ‘anti-Greta’ is the perfect example of how the seemingly ‘ordinary individual’ can make a real impact on international affairs. Having now been hired by a US Thinktank, Heartland Institute, Naomi stands a real chance to influence the environmental policies of, at the very least, our very own Commander in Tweet.
